Opportunity Village Announces  70th Anniversary Time Capsule Project

LAS VEGAS (Aug. 1, 2024) – Opportunity Village is inviting the general public, supporters, and friends to contribute items for the nonprofit’s 70th anniversary time capsule project. To celebrate its milestone 70th anniversary, Opportunity Village is collecting items for the time capsule from Aug. 1-30. Collection boxes are located at the front reception areas inside four Opportunity Village campus locations across the valley:

  • Opportunity Village Ralph & Betty Engelstad Campus, 6050 S. Buffalo Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89113
  • Opportunity Village Linda Smith & Christopher Smith Family Campus, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89146
  • Opportunity Village North Campus, 4180 W. Craig Road, North Las Vegas, NV 89031
  • Opportunity Village Walters Family Campus, 451 E. Lake Mead Parkway, Henderson, NV 89015

Suggested time capsule donations include historical photos taken at Opportunity Village, Magical Forest or other event memorabilia, news clippings or memories of past participants from Opportunity Village are all welcome. The nonprofit just asks that contributors only donate items they don’t mind not being returned. Not all items will be included in the time capsule due to space limitations.

“It’s our 70th year, and we are grateful to our community for their continued support. We have much to be thankful for this year, and we want to celebrate with the Las Vegas community,” said Bob Brown, president and CEO of Opportunity Village. “Our programs are more necessary than ever, and we will be around for a long time to serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Southern Nevada.”

The final time capsule will be included at the site of the planned Betty’s Village North and Northwest Opportunity Village Campus, located at Thom and Rome boulevards, near I-215 and North Decatur Boulevard. Opportunity Village plans to break ground this fall on the $59 million project. The time capsule is scheduled to be opened in 30 years, on the nonprofit’s 100th anniversary.
