Opportunity Village Expanding with New East Las Vegas Neighborhood Club
LAS VEGAS (January 24, 2024) – In mid-February, Opportunity Village will open the East Las Vegas Neighborhood Club, the first new location for the nonprofit since 2021. The club will be located at 3060 E. Bonanza Road, on the corner of East Bonanza and North Mojave roads, and is currently undergoing tenant improvements. This marks the first time Opportunity Village has opened a location in East Las Vegas, and is the second Opportunity Village Neighborhood Club.
The East Las Vegas Neighborhood Club will serve up to 36 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Las Vegas community within a year. The Sunset Neighborhood Club opened in January 2020 at 4300 Sunset Road in Henderson, and serves 32 people between its day habilitation and prevocational programs. Opportunity Village will be hiring about six people for the new location, which is being funded by a grant offered through the American Rescue Plan Act.
“We are expanding our footprint across Las Vegas with our Neighborhood Clubs and our new Northwest Community Center and Betty’s Village North project,” said Bob Brown, president and CEO of Opportunity Village. “We are continuously working to provide the people we serve with what they want, where they want it.”
Opportunity Village’s neighborhood clubs serve as smaller community hubs to meet people where they are in their own neighborhood to receive program services. Being located in the neighborhood lessens travel time for the people Opportunity Village serves. As many use public transportation to receive services, this can be very welcome. Participants who go to the Neighborhood Club work on life skills in their neighborhood, such as learning to shop in the grocery store, which can lead to feeling empowered and independent. Working on life skills with the support of Opportunity Village’s direct care professionals in the environment where they’ll be used can be life-changing.
