Opportunity Village celebrates continued partnership with AbilityOne in 2024
LAS VEGAS (January 8, 2024) – For more than 15 years, Opportunity Village’s partnership with SourceAmerica and AbilityOne has helped ensure employment for people with significant disabilities in Southern Nevada. As a result, countless lives have been changed through opportunities that have led to positive employment outcomes. And in 2024, Opportunity Village is celebrating the continued partnership that employs so many.
Currently, Opportunity Village employs more than 60 people with disabilities through AbilityOne program partners.
The AbilityOne Program is one of the largest sources of employment in the U.S. for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. Approximately 500 nonprofit organizations employ these individuals and provide quality products and services to the Federal Government at a fair market price. The program is administered by the U.S. AbilityOne Commission, an independent Federal agency, with assistance from National Industries for the Blind (NIB), SourceAmerica® and American Foundation for the Blind (AFB).
“Hands-on training can differ for people with different disabilities, and it’s important that we have partners like AbilityOne, as it helps us properly accommodate different learning styles and place more people in positions where they can flourish and thrive,” said Bob Brown, president and CEO of Opportunity Village. “We are proud to partner with AbilityOne and SourceAmerica to help our community.”
As an AbilityOne provider, Opportunity Village operates several federal AbilityOne contracts including:
- General Services Administration
- 6th Army Recruiting Brigade
- Crosswinds/Nellis Air Force Base
- Touch & Go/ Nellis Air Force Base
- PSC/ Nellis Air Force Base
- OMC/Nellis Air Force Base
- United States Bureau of Reclamation
- Red Rock National Conservation Area
Through the AbilityOne partnership, Opportunity Village supplies products and services that meet the strictest quality standards, all at a competitive price, including promotional products and branded merchandise, including apparel; packaging and assembly; warehousing and fulfillment; printing and mailing; document management; and custodial services.
Established in 1938, the AbilityOne program has been offering employment and training assistance to those with disabilities for over 85 years. Nonprofit organizations working alongside the program must produce quality supplies and services and must maintain at least 75% direct labor employees who have disabilities.
