Campus Based Training: Supported Job Skills Training for Adults with Disabilities
Campus Based Training: Supported Job Skills Training for Adults with Disabilities
Join our job skills training for adults with disabilities — and gain the skills and confidence to enter the workforce.
Trusted since 1964 and developed in collaboration with the Desert Regional Center.
The program empowers you or your loved one to work sustainably towards independent employment. And it’s fun.
We use hands-on training, goal-setting, and meaningful community engagement to ensure plenty of learning and personal growth along the way.
Whether you’re interested in daily living skills or more job-specific training, we tailor each step to match your goals.
Our goal is to give you the skills and confidence needed for future employment in the community.
In addition to on-site training at our campus, participants go on regular outings to practice what they’ve learned.
You might tour apartment complexes to work on independent living skills or practice taking public transport so you can move around the city confidently. These outings aren’t just fun — they’re your chance to apply new skills in real-world settings.
Set Goals and Track Your Progress
Personalized goal setting is at the heart of this program. Each participant has their own support team, including family, service coordinators, and other important people. You will work with your support team to map out clear goals for your personal and professional development.
Then, we’ll meet annually (or more often if needed) to review progress, celebrate wins, and make adjustments as you move toward greater independence.
Learn Through Direct Support
Throughout the program, you’ll work in small teams based on shared interests and goals. Each session covers a specific area of development, from social and emotional learning to job skills training.
For example, we partner with RTC’s Mobility Training program to improve your mobility and independence. Practice essential skills in the “On the Go” vehicle — a mobile training unit that teaches you how to use public transport.
You’ll rotate through activities that build not only measurable skills but also confidence, independence, and adaptability. Every lesson is designed to move you closer to your goals — and by working with our experienced Direct Support Professionals, you’ll always have guidance when you need it most.
Find Employment Pathways
This is supported job skills training for adults with disabilities — the program’s ultimate goal is to prepare you for community employment.
You’ll work with professionals, engage in mock interviews, and complete paid training sessions. Support staff work with you to build a roadmap based on your employment goals. Whether practicing job applications or learning to work in a team, each step brings you closer to job opportunities.
At the end of the program, you might continue into Opportunity Village’s Entry or Pathway to Work programs, both designed in partnership with Nevada’s Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR). These programs offer more focused, shorter-term job skills training that gives you the final push towards securing paid work, with support in applying, interviewing, and succeeding in your new role.
Learn and Grow at Your Pace
The program provides long-term, structured support with no predetermined end date. You take the time you need to learn. This allows for significant but sustainable progress, ensuring you have the time and guidance needed to make meaningful changes in your life.
Gain Enriching Experience in the Real World
At Opportunity Village, we believe that community collaboration is essential for success. That’s why we partner with local businesses and organizations to create rich, real-world experiences for participants.
By engaging with existing community services, you’ll develop the skills to navigate your environments independently. Job skills training for adults with disabilities shouldn’t just be about learning on campus — it’s about preparing for life beyond the program.
The aim is to get comfortable and confident in settings you’ll encounter when you’re on your own. You can apply what you’ve learnt in a practical way, making sure the transition to independent living or employment feels smooth and familiar.
We also collaborate with Nevada’s Workforce Investment System, including the BVR, to connect participants to job opportunities. This partnership helps smooth the transition from training to employment, ensuring you have the right tools and support to succeed in your new role.
