OV Spotlight: Bryan Coy, Board Member

Tags: Published On: July 27, 2023

A longtime resident of Las Vegas, and Opportunity Village board member since 2020, Bryan Coy is more than a businessman. Bryan is a family man and one of only a handful of individuals who enjoyed a recent once-in-a-lifetime ride along the Las Vegas strip.

Beyond his time as an OV board member, Bryan is the Chief Financial Officer for Cannae Holdings, Inc., following a stint at the same post with Black Knight Sports, which includes the Vegas Golden Knights. Having been based out of Las Vegas for about 20 years, Bryan initially joined the company to lessen his time away from home and to be closer to his wife and daughter. The joy of spending time with his family at VGK games each season was just an added perk of the job.

Once involved with Black Knight Sports, Bryan was first introduced to Opportunity Village when his company was seeking someone to become more involved with their OV partnership and join its board of directors. Although he had lived in Las Vegas for two decades and Bryan was aware of the Opportunity Village name, he had yet to become more familiar with what Opportunity Village truly had to offer the community and chose to book a campus tour to get some better insight. The initial introductory tour was all it took for Bryan to become awestruck by the Opportunity Village mission and volunteer to serve as an OV board member to continue his involvement with the nonprofit.

Five years later, Bryan continues to serve on the board of directors for Opportunity Village while balancing the excitement of his involvement with Black Knight Sports. For Bryan, not only did the 2022-2023 NHL season provide more opportunities for him and his family to enjoy hockey games, but it also provided a close proximity to celebrate the Vegas Golden Knights’ advancement in the playoffs as they won and celebrated their first Stanley Cup.

Among the surreal experiences Bryan participated in were celebrating the victory on the ice at the end of the final game with the players, snapping a quick photo with his wife and the Stanley Cup, and even riding on top of the celebratory parade caravan with the VGK players.

Get to Know Bryan:

Q: What is your favorite type of food?

A: Probably pizza. Specifically, there is something called a harvest cherry pizza from MacKenzie River at City National Arena that is simply amazing. So, pizza served with a cold bourbon definitely.

Q: What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

A: I enjoy playing pickleball and watching a lot of hockey. Also going to comedy clubs and hanging out with friends.

Q: What are your favorite sports teams (other than the Knights):

A: I was always huge into baseball growing up – the Houston Astros were always my favorite sports team then – but now of course they’ve been replaced by the Vegas Golden Knights.

Q: What movie genre interests you the most?

A: I like comedy a lot or espionage type of movies like The Firm.

Q: What is one thing you can’t live without?

A: My wife. When I was away so much of the time due to work she raised our daughter and that means everything to me. She’s an incredible person.

Q: If you could pick one superpower what would it be?

A: Reading minds would be pretty helpful; that would also help with my wife.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?

A: I haven’t been to Fiji yet, and I’d like to go there.

Q: What are you most proud of?

A: My family. My daughter and my wife above everything.

Q: What is your favorite holiday tradition?

A: Going to the beach for Christmas. That’s kind of an “our” tradition with just our branch of the family.

Q: What is one piece of advice you would give people who are thinking about getting involved with Opportunity Village?

A: Go do a site visit. Opportunity Village is such an incredible resource for the city and the area, and taking a tour through the campus really gives you an understanding of the value that it has on the community.
