Opportunity Village to Host Family Advocacy Conference on Aug. 16

LAS VEGAS (July 8, 2024) – Parents, family members, guardians, friends, and supporters of people with disabilities are invited to an event designed specifically with their interests in mind.

The first-ever Opportunity Village Family Advocacy Conference will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Aug. 16, at Opportunity Village’s Smith Family Campus, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd. The event is open to families and loved ones of people with disabilities, and registration costs $25. For more information or to register, visit https://www.opportunityvillage.org/learn-connect/advocacy-resources. There’s also a Facebook event page here.

The conference will explore complexities and opportunities surrounding the transition from family residential settings to more independent and community-based living, developing plans for the future, and will teach attendees how to tell their story for effective, everyday advocacy. Attendees can look forward to an empowering day developing advocacy skills, relationships, and resource connections spread across three sessions.

In its 70th year, Opportunity Village exists to serve people with disabilities in the Las Vegas area, and is constantly evolving to meet the needs of the community.

“Getting a chance to spend the day with the Opportunity Village Advocacy team and other industry experts is invaluable for many of the families in our city,” said Bob Brown, president and CEO of Opportunity Village. “We hope this conference results in new networks and relationships for those who attend, and that this event is just the beginning in their journey to learn more about how to advocate for their loved ones.”
